The law shapes everyday work with whānau (families), yet what it means to be “legally literate” remains unclear across practice settings. This interactive workshop introduces a research-informed definition of legal literacy as a professional capability that supports those working alongside whānau to navigate legal systems with clarity and confidence.

Through practice examples and storytelling, participants will explore how legal literacy shows up in everyday support and practice roles, including social service and legal contexts. The session invites reflection on current approaches and offers practical insights to strengthen informed, relational, and empowering work with whānau.

Hannah will also be joined by a panel of community members with unique case studies and stories to tell.
